Clergy of Saint Laurence’s Church

The Revd Dr David Miell, our Team Rector
     The Rectory, 18 Albert Street, Slough SL1 2BU. Tel. (01753) 529988

David has been Team Rector of the parish of Upton cum Chalvey since 1996. He previously worked in Milton Keynes and Oxford. Prior to ordination David studied and taught psychology.

David is known for his love of J. S. Bach's music. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the re-dedication of our church in December 2001, David and Andreas performed Bach’s cantata 140, Wachet auf!  David is chairman of the governors of Saint Mary's CE Primary School, a member of the Buckinghamshire Archdeaconry RSCM Committee and the Diocesan Urban Priority Areas Action Group.

David co-ordinates confirmation classes, and is pleased to provide further information about weddings and baptisms at Saint Laurence’s, or the availability of the church for projected events.

The Revd Dr Andreas Loewe, our Team Curate
     134 Albert Street, Slough SL1 2AU. Tel. (01753) 694083

Andreas joined the parish staff in July 2001. He is a historian of the German and English reformations and continues to do some further research. A keen musician, he seeks to encourage young people to engage in making music and the performing arts. In his work Andreas hopes to strengthen ecumenical relationships between Saint Laurence’s and other churches, both locally and abroad – for example in his native Germany or the Holy Land.

Andreas runs a group for young adults in the parish, and co-ordinates an opera workshop for young directors and artists in conjunction with Saint Mary's CE Primary School.

Derek West has been Team Vicar of the Parish of Upton cum Chalvey since 1995 and has been working for the church in Slough for about twenty years. As Team Vicar, he has responsibility for Saint Peter's Church. Derek is a Diocesan Racial Justice Officer in Archdeaconry of Buckingham. A keen historian, he currently holds a series of talks at Sunday Evensong on the history of the church in Britain.

Coming Soon in the New Year
Revd Henriët Oostra - Ordained in June 1992 as a priest of the Church of Sweden. Under the Porvoo Agreement which allows mutual recognition of ministries between the Church of England and Church of Sweden, Henriët is coming to us as Associate Minister with special responsibility for St Laurence's Church. This is a special post the Bishop has created to enable our Rector to give the proper amount of time to his job as Area Dean. Henriët will also be doing her PhD research in Practical Theology and, at the special request of the Bishop, helping the whole Diocese to strengthen its links with the Church of Sweden. We look forward to welcoming Henriët into the Parish and to her licensing in St Laurence's on Sunday 8 February at 3pm.
